made my first butter yesterday.  Used 600ml whipping cream & got 227g butter – about half a pound.  Sweeter & more fragrant than I expected & still glistening with buttermilk.  Now in the frsssidge while I decide what to have it with first.  Really ought to be still-warm crusty bread, with perhaps a hint of rosemary, or cheese scones, or crumpets with rhubarb & ginger jam.  butter&churn 005

because you don’t make butter with double cream, I now know.  Sarah treated me to a mini butter churn & first time out, I thought if I used double cream, already nice & thick, it should speed the process up.  It sure did.  Within about three strokes, the hydraulic pressure built up so I couldn’t budge it.  Top off & what I have is a good reason to buy some scones!

More news soon – things are settling down on the family front now, so I’m hoping to get a few thoughts down again.
